PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a treatment technology for purifying a medium containing heavy metals and/or nonmetals, by fixing the heavy metals and/or nonmetals contained in the medium containing the heavy metals and/or nonmetals, such as, arsenic, fluorine, selenium, lead, cadmium, chromium or mercury, at a high concentration rate.
SOLUTION : In the treatment method for a medium containing heavy metals and/or nonmetals, the heavy metals and/or nonmetals are fixed to an adsorbent by bringing the adsorbent containing rare earth compounds into contact with the medium containing heavy metals and/or nonmetals. The method is relatively simple without need of separation of the medium from the adsorbent by screening or the like after the fixation, and has superior treatment capacity.
