A fluorescent rare-earth-metal complex which is soluble in organic solvents, is reduced in inclusion of factors inhibiting expected properties, such as a solvent, and can retain properties inherent in the complex; and a process for easily producing the complex. The complex is represented by the formula (RCO2)3LnL (wherein R is at least one group selected among alkyl, alkenyl, and 1-naphthyl, 2-naphthyl, phenyl, and quinolyl groups which may have a certain kind of substituent; Ln is a rare earth element; and L is a neutral organic ligand). It is produced by subjecting a rare-earth-metal salt and RCO2M (wherein R is the same as defined above and M is hydrogen or a given metal) to a neutralization reaction to obtain a rare-earth-metal complex and reacting the complex with a neutral organic ligand. |
