PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a vacuum ultraviolet excitation aluminate phosphor having good dispersibility and a good luminance retention by gas discharge and a vacuum ultraviolet excitation light emitting device using the same.
SOLUTION : The vacuum ultraviolet excitation aluminate phosphor having good dispersibility and a good luminance retention by gas discharge can be obtained by coating the particle surface of an aluminate phosphor activated by at least one activator of Eu and Mn with zinc oxide in an amount of 0.1-4.0 wt.% based on the phosphor. By using this vacuum ultraviolet excitation aluminate phosphor in a light emitting device such as a PDP and a rare gas discharge lamp, the vacuum ultraviolet excitation light emitting device excellent in coating properties and life characteristics can be provided.
