PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alloy for an electrode which can provide an electrode having satisfactory discharge properties by solving the problems of the oxidation of the electrode in a heating step and a reduction in its life when in use.
SOLUTION : The alloy for the cold cathode discharge tube electrode comprises by mass, 0.3 to 3.0% Si and 0.01 to 0.3% rare earth elements, and as selected elements, at least one kind selected from among ≤0.015% B, ≤0.50% Ti, ≤1.0% Nb and ≤0.20% Zr, and one or two kinds selected from among Hf and Re in an amount of 0 to 0.5% in total, and the balance substantially Ni.
