PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst capable of improving a cleaning performance of an exhaust gas, and suppressing a catalyst layer from exfoliating.
SOLUTION : The exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is formed such that the outer periphery of a honeycomb carrier 3 is disposed with a permanent magnet or a magnetic field generating device, and the catalyst layer 4 formed on the honeycomb carrier includes magnetic materials 5 and catalytic metals 6. The catalyst layer of the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst further includes components 8 for enhancing basicity, and at least a part of the component for enhancing the basicity is carried on the surface of a particle of the magnetic material. Furthermore, the component for enhancing basicity is a compound including at least one kind of a component selected from an alkaline metal, an alkaline earth metal and a rare earth metal.
