PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas, the deterioration of whose activity can be restrained by restraining the grain growth of a noble metal even if the catalyst for purifying exhaust gas is exposed in high-temperature exhaust gas for a long time and which can be regenerated by breaking up the grain-grown noble metal again into satisfactorily minute particles.
SOLUTION : The catalyst for purifying exhaust gas comprises : a compound oxide particle A which consists of a metal oxide containing alumina at least and a first basic oxide, that is deposited on the surface of the metal oxide and contains at least one element selected from the group consisting of alkaline-earth metallic elements, rare earth elements and 3A group elements, and in which the amount of the first basic oxide to be deposited on the metal oxide is 0.1-30 mass%; another compound oxide particle B consisting of zirconia and a second basic oxide containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of alkaline-earth metallic elements, rare earth elements and 3A group elements; an additional component which is deposited on the compound oxide particle B and contains at least one element selected from the group consisting of alkaline-earth metallic elements, rare earth elements and 3A group elements; and the noble metal deposited on the compound oxide particle B at least.
