A re-usable safety tail support has an elongate post (100) adapted to removably recdve at least one rail receiving portion that will receive and support a safety in use. The rail support has a releasable damping mechanism for clamping engagement with an object to secure the rail support to the object, the rdeasable damping mechanism having an upper jaw that is fixed relative to the post, and a lower jaw that is s]idable relative to the post. At least a part of the object is receivable between the upper jaw and the lower jaw. A wedge is adapted to engage the slidable jaw for securing the slidable jaw in clamping engagement with the object.
