PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp for general illumination capable of providing an insulation structure of an external electrode type rare gas fluorescent lamp by a simple method, of enhancing stability of insulation, and of providing a long usage life as compared with a conventional internal electrode type fluorescent lamp.
SOLUTION : This rare gas fluorescent lamp is provided with : a rare gas fluorescent lamp with a pair of external electrodes arranged on the outside surface of an arc tube along the tube axis direction; an insulation tubular body covering the whole fluorescent lamp and having translucency; and a lid member having a nearly-disc-like end wall part covering an opening end of the insulation tubular body and a nearly-tubular catching part formed protrusively from the inside surface of the end wall part, and formed of a resin. The lid member generally-coaxially holds the rare gas fluorescent lamp and the insulation tubular body by inserting and fitting the catching part in the insulation tubular body with an end of the arc tube mounted in the catching part, an adhesive is filled between the lid member and the insulation tubular body, and thus the double tube type rare gas fluorescent lamp nearly in a sealed state is composed.
