PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for efficiently producing a high-quality (1, 3-dioxolan-4-yl)alkyl alcohol derivative, wherein use is made of a reduced amount of a catalyst and the catalyst recovered can be reused as it is.
SOLUTION : The method for producing the (1, 3-dioxolan-4-yl)alkyl alcohol derivative comprises the process of conducting a dehydration reaction between a carbonyl group-containing compound and an alkanetriol compound in the presence of at least one acetalization catalyst selected from the group consisting of rare earth metal sulfate, rare earth metal triflate, zirconium sulfate and zirconium acetylacetonate, followed by feeding, as recycled catalyst, the above acetalization catalyst recovered from the resultant reaction mixture to the dehydration reaction.
