PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for efficiently producing a particulate yttrium oxide fluorescent material having a uniform and sharp particle size distribution of ≤1, 000 nm.
SOLUTION : The method for producing a particulate yttrium oxide fluorescent material containing a rare earth metal other than yttrium as an activation agent and emitting fluorescent light by ultraviolet excitation comprises the reaction of an yttrium compound with a compound of a rare earth element other than yttrium in the presence of a solvent such as ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, diethylene glycol monomethyl ether and glycerol and a particle size regulation agent such as polyacrylic acid or its derivative, polyvinyl alcohol and polypyrrolidone.
