PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of manufacturing a rare earth based permanent magnet exhibiting high corrosion resistance by providing a uniform and dense electroplated coating film with excellent adhesion property. ŽSOLUTION : After a non-conductive coating film composed of a resin in which 1st metal powder is dispersed is formed on the surface of the rare earth based permanent magnet, a substitution plated coating film substituted by a 2nd metal is formed on the surface of the non-conductive coating film by dipping the non-conductive coating film-formed permanent magnet into a solution containing ions of the 2nd metal having potential more noble than the 1st metal and further, an electroplated coating film of a 3rd metal is formed on the substitution plated coating film.
