Disclosed is an ultra small rare earth magnet having a surface area/volume ratio of 2 mm-1 and a volume of not more than 100 mm3. This magnet comprises a machined surface and a metal film covering at least a part of the machined surface. This metal film is composed of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Cu, Zn, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, In, Sn, Ta, W, Re, Ir, Pt, Au and Bi or an alloy thereof. This ultra small rare earth magnet is improved in deterioration of magnetic characteristics caused by machine working, and exhibits excellent corrosion resistance even under severe conditions. |
