PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a liquid crystal display device that can effectively utilize light at a short wavelength from a light source, has high use efficiency of light, and is excellent in manufacture efficiency, durability and color reproducibility.
SOLUTION : The liquid crystal display device comprises a light source, a wavelength conversion film, a polarizer (A), a liquid crystal panel and a polarizer B disposed in this order, wherein the wavelength conversion film converts light in a short wavelength region in the incident rays from the light source into light having a peak wavelength in a range of 620 to 700 nm. The light in a short wavelength region is preferably light in a wavelength region of 300 to 450 nm. The wavelength conversion film preferably contains a compound of Mn, Sn or Fe, or a rare earth metal compound.
