In tests, the administration of 4-(3, 4-dihydroxyphenyl)butan-2-one at 1 weight part in a high fat diet to ICR mice gave an average weight gain after 3 weeks of 7.4 g compared to 12.2 g for a control and 7.1 g for mice fed a normal diet.
