PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a practical high-pressure discharge lamp device which is provided with a mercury-free high-pressure discharge lamp and a high-pressure pulse generator which are connected by a current inlet system, having a dielectric strength of a predetermined range and which has a high-reliability startability over a long period, as well.
SOLUTION : The high-pressure discharge lamp device is provided with a high-pressure discharge lamp MHL that includes a light-transmitting ceramic airtight vessel 1; an illuminating tube IT having a pair of electrodes 2, 2 separated from each other by a space and contained in the vessel 1 and an ionizing medium, containing metal halide and rare gas and does not essentially contain mercury; and an outer tube OT, which accommodates the illuminating tube and is airtight with respect to the external atmosphere; a high-voltage pulse generator IG to impress between the pair of the electrodes and start up the high-pressure discharge lamp; and a current inlet system CM1, having a dielectric strength of 9 kV or higher to connect the illuminating tube with the high-voltage pulse generator.
