PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a preform made of ceramic for compounding with a magnesium alloy whose reaction with a rare earth element added to a magnesium alloy for improving its corrosion resistance and heat resistance can be prevented, and which does not impede the characteristics of the magnesium alloy, and to provide its production method. SOLUTION : Water into which a fibrous or whisker-shaped or granular ceramic material is dispersed is mixed with a rare earth oxide such as Y2O3. If required, an inorganic binder and/or a pore impartment agent is added thereto, thereafter, a flocculation material is charged thereto, so as to flocculate the ceramic material, and the flocculated body is molded, dried and fired. The obtained preform is composed of the sintered ceramic material, and has a fixed layer of the rare earth oxide on the surface thereof. COPYRIGHT : (C)2006, JPO&NCIPI |
