PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a glass production method or a crystallized glass production method which does not necessitate a reduction treatment in a reduction gas atmosphere such as a mixed gas atmosphere of a rare gas and hydrogen, a mixed gas atmosphere of nitrogen and hydrogen, or the like, when reducing rare earth components contained in the glass, thus there is no danger of explosion during the treatment operation, and by which the reduction treatment can reduce into the interior.
SOLUTION : In a process for heat treating glass or in a process for heat treating and crystallizing glass, into the glass an electric current of 0.1 mA-10 mA is passed. The glass is glass that contains at least one component of rare earth components, Cr, Mn, and Fe components, and the glass or the crystallized glass containing the reduced component of rare earth components, Cr, Mn, and Fe components is produced by heat treating or heat treating and crystallizing the glass while passing the electric current by applying an electric field to the glass.
