PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an RTN-based alloy powder having water resistance and oxidation resistance for a permanent magnet, the alloy powder which has increased water resistance and oxidation resistance and is thereby prevented from being contaminated by moisture and oxygen as much as possible. SOLUTION : The alloy powder represented by general formula RxT100-x-y-zNySzis used (wherein, R is at least one kind of element selected from group of rare earth metal elements including yttrium, T is at least one kind of element selected from group of Fe, Co and Ni, N is nitrogen, S is sulfur and x, y and z satisfy the following range, respectively, that is, 3≤x≤30 atom%, 5≤y≤15 atom%, and 0.001≤z≤15 atom%). The above containing of the specific amount of S is effective to water resistance and oxidation resistance. Consequently, industrial utilization of economically profitable reduction-diffusion process can be realized, and also an environmental resistance of the permanent magnet obtained by using Sm-Fe-N-based alloy powder can be improved.
