PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method of a display device in which effective restoration of a defective pixel in the field emission type display and improvement in uniformity of electron emission capable of application even for a large sized display can be made. SOLUTION : This is the method of manufacturing the display device 10 which is constructed in a panel shape so as to be opposed by a rear plate 30 having a gate electrode 35 and a field emission negative electrode 33, a front plate 20 having a fluorescent face 23 and a glass substrate 21 interposing a transparent electrode 22, and a spacer 40. Before the display device 10 is vacuum sealed, a rare gas is introduced into the panel and gas discharge is made to occur between both electrodes with the field emission negative electrode 33 as a negative electrode and the transparent electrode 22 as a positive electrode in the display device, thereby obtaining an effect that the discharge current density of the field emission negative electrode 33 can be increased and the electron emission can be made uniform. Before the rare gas is introduced, the panel is evacuated under heating and affix is removed, and the defective pixel is lighted off during the gas discharge treatment and lastly the display device is vacuum sealed.
