PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a carbon material that can be molded without a binder and that can be used for a negative electrode having an excellent dielectric capacitance per unit volume.
SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing a carbon material includes the following steps [1] to [5]. They are steps of : [1] preparing a wet gel by reacting an aqueous solution containing a phenolic compound, an aldehyde compound and a basic catalyst; [2] dehydrating the wet gel obtained in the step [1] to prepare a dried gel; [3] impregnating the dried gel obtained in the step [2] with an aqueous solution containing a phenolic compound, an aldehyde compound and a basic catalyst to react to obtain a re-wet gel; [4] dehydrating the re-wet gel obtained in the step [3] to prepare a re-dried gel; and [5] calcining the re-dried gel obtained in the step [4] to prepare a carbon material.
