PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a hydrogen absorbing alloy for an alkaline storage battery, a manufacturing method thereof, and an alkaline storage battery capable of having high output characteristics considerably exceeding the conventional range by examining a formation ratio of an A2B7 structure and an A5B19 structure.
SOLUTION : The hydrogen absorbing alloy for an alkaline storage battery includes an element R selected from rare-earth elements including Y except La and the group IV and an element M consisting of at least one or more of Co, Mn, and Zn. General expression for the hydrogen absorbing alloy is LaαR1-α-βMgβNiγ-η-εAlηMε (here, α, β, γ, η and ε satisfy following conditions; 0≤α≤0.5, 0.1≤β≤0.2, 3.7≤γ≤3.9, 0.1≤η≤0.3, and 0≤ε≤0.2), and the A5B19 type structure is 40% or more in a crystal structure.
