PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal halide lamp capable of suppressing the occurrence of flickers for a long time.
SOLUTION : The metal halide lamp includes a discharge part 11 in which a discharge space 14 is formed inside, an airtight container 1 having sealing parts 12a, 12b continuously formed in the discharge part 11, a discharge medium containing rare gas and metal iodide in the discharge space 14 and not substantially containing mercury, and a pair of electrodes 3a2, 3b2 with one end sealed and adhered to the sealing parts 12a, 12b and the other end arranged in the discharge space 14 opposite to each other. The electrode 3a2, 3b2 contain 0.1 wt.% or more and 0.7 wt.% or less of thorium oxide, and 0.0010 wt.% or more of potassium.
