PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a gas discharge panel such as a PDP to start with, capable of enhancing panel luminance and efficiency for converting discharge energy to visible light, and capable of obtaining luminescence with excellent color purity. ŽSOLUTION : Luminous efficiency and panel luminance can be further enhanced than conventional ones by setting the charged pressure of a gas medium within a higher range of 800-4000 Torr than the conventional one. In addition, the luminous efficiency can be enhanced and a discharge voltage can be lowered by changing the gas medium to be filled to a mixture of rare gas containing helium, neon, xenon and argon from the conventional gas composition, and preferably by making the content of Xe not more than 5 volume %, the content of Ar not more than 0.5 volume %, and the content of He less than 55 volume %.
