PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an optical fiber capable of efficiently coupling an excited light into a gain core without optimizing the geometric structure of sectional shape of the optical fiber and the installed shape of the optical fiber. SOLUTION : The optical fiber 1 is equipped with a core 2 to which a rare-earth element as a gain medium is added and a clad 3 which is formed at the outer periphery of the core 2 and couples an excited light propagated in the clad 3 into the core 2, wherein the clad 3 has an uneven shape along the longitudinal direction of the clad 3.
