PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare metal/platinum-based metal extractant having a completely new structure which cannot be seen in the conventional rare earth/platinum-based metal extractants and having excellent extracting performance and also to provide a method for extracting rare metal/platinum-based metal using the same. SOLUTION : The rare metal/platinum-based metal extractant is characterized as follows : a solution in which several rare metals/platinum-based metals are dissolved is brought into contact with a solution in which a cyclic phenol sulfide expressed by general formula (1) is dissolved, and thereby, each rare metal/platinum-based metal is transferred to the cyclic phenol sulfide solution and each rare metal/platinum-based metal can be extracted.
