PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare-earth magnet provided with a protective layer which can be manufactured by a simple method and has sufficient waterproofness, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION : The rare-earth magnet 1 of a preferable embodiment is provided with a magnet base 2 containing a metal element containing at least a rare earth element, and the protective layer 4 formed on the surface of the magnet base 2. The protective layer 4 contains silicon, oxygen and a metal element same as one kind of at least the metal elements contained in the magnet base 2. The at least one kind of the metal elements same as that of the magnet base 2 contained in the protective layer has density getting larger from the surface side in the protective layer to the magnet base side. The rare-earth magnet 1 of the above configuration can be manufactured through a precess allowing a solution containing silicic acid ions and having acidity to contact the surface of the magnet base 2 and precipitating the protective layer 4 onto the surface of the magnet base 2.
