PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magnetic material capable of easily forming a magnet having a small content of rare earth elements, sufficient magnetic characteristics, and a bulk shape, and to provide a magnet that uses the magnetic material.
SOLUTION : The magnetic material has : a main phase particle 2 made of an intermetallic compound that contains at least rare earth elements and has a CaCu5-type crystal structure; and a coating layer 4 that covers at least one portion of the periphery of the main phase particle 2 and uses Fe as the main component. The magnet that uses the magnetic material is provided also.
