A phosphor is provided to emit visible light at a high intensity by being excited in a wavelength range of around 400 nm, and to obtain a high-output white light-emitting device having excellent color rendering characteristics. A phosphor is represented by the formula of M1O2.aM2O.bM3X2 : M4c, wherein M1 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Si, Ge, Ti, Zr and Sn; M2 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn; M3 is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn; X is at least one halogen element; M4 is at least one rare earth metal element essentially comprising Eu2+; a is 1-1.3; b is 0.2-0.5; and c is 0.05-0.8. |
