PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkaline storage battery using a rare earth-Mg-Ni hydrogen storage alloy, with Co contained in a negative electrode, in which the Co is suppressed from causing self discharging by being precipitated into a separator, providing sufficient preservation characteristics.
SOLUTION : The negative electrode of the alkaline storage battery contains a hydrogen storage alloy represented by a general formula Ln1-xMgxNiy-a-bCoaMb (in the formula, Ln is at least one element selected from among rare earth elements containing Y, Zr, and Ti, M is at least one element selected from among V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, Mn, Fe, Al, Ga, Zn, Sn, In, Cu, Si, P, and B, and x, y, a, b meet the conditions of 0.05≤x≤0.30, 2.8≤y≤3.9, 0.05≤a≤0.30, and 0≤b≤0.50.), high polymer containing 2-pyrrolidone as side chain, and carbon powder.
