An apparatus and method of propelling a ship is provided to increase propulsion efficiency by reheating steam discharged from a steam turbine in a LNG carrier and preheating water supplied to a main boiler using steam fed from the steam turbine. An apparatus for propelling a ship is intended to drive steam turbines by generating steam in a main boiler and sequentially feeding the steam through a steam supply line to a high-pressure steam turbine(11) and a low-pressure steam turbine(13). The apparatus includes a middle-pressure steam turbine(15) which is installed between the high-pressure steam turbine and the low-pressure steam turbine. A re-heater(3) is additionally installed to the main boiler. A steam recovery line(L21) for reheating extends from the rear end of the high-pressure steam turbine to the front end of the re-heater. A steam supply line(L22) for reheating extends from the rear end of the re-heater to the front end of the middle-pressure steam turbine. An additional line extends from at least one of the high-pressure steam turbine, the low-pressure steam turbine, the middle-pressure steam turbine, the steam recovery line, and the steam supply line to a steam using device, and provides steam to the steam using device. |
