PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for treating a thermal barrier coating on a turbine engine component to extend effective lifetime of the turbine engine component.
SOLUTION : A method of treating the thermal barrier coating comprises applying a dopant composition to a selected surface of the thermal barrier coating disposed on the turbine engine component, and heating the surface to form an enhanced thermal barrier coating. The dopant composition comprises a rare earth metal compound. An article includes the enhanced thermal barrier coating formed with the method.
