PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide metal magnetic powder which can obtain high density magnetic recording medium having satisfactory storage stability and magnetic properties, and to provide a magnetic recording medium using the same.SOLUTION : Disclosed is ferromagnetic metal powder composed of acicular particles with the major axis length of ≤0.12 μm in which the content of the group 1a elements in the periodic table is reduced to ≤0.05 wt.%, and further, the remaining amount of the group 2a elements in the periodic table made into soluble is reduced to ≤0.1 wt.%, and which comprises aluminum of 0.1 to 30 atomic% to the total of the metallic elements or rare earth elements (including Y) of 0.1 to 10 atomic% to the total of the metallic elements.
