PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet having a protective layer that can provide sufficient water resistance, and to provide a rare earth magnet obtained by the method.
SOLUTION : The method for manufacturing the rare earth magnet comprising a magnet body containing a rare earth element and a protective layer formed on the surface of the magnet body includes : a first step in which a zinc compound soluble in an alkaline solution is dissolved in an alkali silicate solution to obtain a treatment solution; a second step in which the treatment solution is made to adhere to the surface of the magnet body; and a third step in which the treatment solution adhering to the magnet body surface is cured to form a protective layer comprising the cured product of the treatment solution.
