PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To improve the performance of purifying exhaust gas ingredients, including HCs, CO and particulate, and the heat resistance of the performance.
SOLUTION : A catalyst metal is supported by a support material in which primary particles of activated alumina and those of a composite particles containing Zr, Nd, Ce and a rare earth metal R other than Nd are mixed to form secondary particles. The primary particles of the composite oxide contain ZrO2 at a ratio of 55-78 mol%, and the ratio of the primary particles of the composite oxide in the total amount of the primary particles of the activated alumina and those of the composite oxide is 25-90 mass%.
