简介 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magneto-optical element of which the Faraday rotatation capacity to light in wavelength 1.3-1.6 μm band is around 45°, and which has a large value of backward insertion loss. SOLUTION : The magneto-optical element is constituted of a bismuth-substituted rare earth garnet crystal, has 350 μm or more thickness grown by a liquid epitaxial method not using a lead compound as a flux, contains platinum, and satisfies the relation that the formula amount x of platinum is 0.02≤x<0.04.
