PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a dehalognation method of a material containing an organic halogen compound, which is safe and free from a fear of secondary contamination, has a very excellent processing efficiency, has a short processing time, and is capable of mass processing. SOLUTION : The material containing an organic halogen compound is mixed with an oxide of a rare-earth element (Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, or Lu), and subsequently, the material is mechanochemically treated.
