PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a high purity aluminum wire having excellent surface properties, and to provide its production method.
SOLUTION : The high purity aluminum wire has a composition comprising an alkaline-earth metal element(s) by 0.002 to 0.15 mass% in total and ≥99.7 mass% aluminum, and the balance inevitable impurities, and has an electric conductivity of ≥61% IACS. By the incorporation of the alkaline-earth metal element(s) by the prescribed amount, in the high purity aluminum, external shrinkage cavities upon casting, and the generation of a remelting phenomenon caused by external shrinkage cavities are reduced, and cracks and flaws upon rolling and wire drawing after the casting can be reduced. By utilizing the high purity aluminum, the high purity aluminum wire having excellent surface properties can be obtained. Further, by controlling the addition amount of the alkaline-earth metal element(s) to the prescribed range, the high purity aluminum wire can be utilized as the forming material for a lead terminal of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor without deteriorating its electric conductivity.
