PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain an R-T-B-based sintered magnet showing high magnetic characteristics in effective utilization of an expensive heavy rare earth element.
SOLUTION : The R-T-B-based sintered magnet includes a main component of an R2T14B compound (R denotes one or two or more kinds of transition metal elements selected from rare earth elements containing Y, and T denotes one or two or more kinds of transition metal elements containing an essential component of Fe or Fe and Co), and a main phase of crystal grains containing Tb and Dy as heavy rare earth elements and at least one of Nd and Pr as a light rare earth element. On the section of the crystal grains, Tb is distributed in high concentration at the inner periphery in the crystal grains, and Dy is distributed almost uniformly in the crystal grains or in high concentration at the periphery of the crystal grain.
