PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an ASE light source having a stable optical output across a visible range to a near-infrared range.
SOLUTION : In a light source having at least an excitation light source, a rare earth additive fluoride optical waveguide, a wave combining means, and an optical fiber for output, the ASE light source emits ASE light at least through one or more long wavelength shielding devices provided in or outside the light source, the ASE light with a wavelength shorter than that of excitation light which is generated in an up-conversion process produced in the rare earth additive optical waveguide.
