PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To produce a powder in which barium titanate and a rare earth element compound are uniformly mixed even from the microscopic viewpoint. SOLUTION : The barium titanate powder containing a rare earth element has an insoluble salt or an oxide of the rare earth element on its surface. The barium titanium powder containing a rare earth element, on which an oxide of the rare earth element is fixed, is obtained by suspending barium titanate powder in a solution containing a water-soluble salt of the rare earth element and urea, heating the suspension to uniformly deposit basic carbonate of the rare earth element on the surface of barium titanate powder, and firing the obtained powder at a temp. of >=600 deg.C. Or, the barium titanate powder containing a rare earth element is prepared by adding ammonia to a suspension containing barium titanate powder and the water-soluble salt of the rare earth element in order to deposit hydroxide of the rare earth element and then firing the hydroxide. |
