PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescent lamp with higher efficiency than a conventional fluorescent lamp as well as having an approximately same output and a lighting equipment using the fluorescent lamp.
SOLUTION : The fluorescent lamp is provided such that; a light emitting tube 2 in which a cross-sectional shape of a bulb forming a discharge path is formed to have b/a be 0.3 to 0.8 when a major axis is a (mm) and a minor axis is b (mm); a discharging medium is made of the light emitting tube 2 composed of rare gas containing 30 vol% or more of krypton (Kr) and sealed with gas pressure of 100 to 254 Pa; and a pair of electrode means sealing end parts of the light emitting tube 2. By reducing the gas pressure concerning the gas type, higher lamp efficiency than the conventional fluorescent lamps can be obtained while suppressing lowering of optical output without deteriorating a service life property.
