PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst capable of sufficiently suppressing NOx leakage subsequent to rich spike and having excellent thermal durability and resistance to sulfur poisoning, and an exhaust gas purification method using the same.
SOLUTION : The exhaust gas purification catalyst is constituted of a mixed powder comprised of a first powder comprising complex oxide particles containing at least one oxide selected from the group consisting of titania, alumina, zirconia, silica and silica-alumina and rhodium supported by the complex oxide particles and a second powder comprising porous support particles by which rhodium is not supported; at least one NOx occlusion material selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal, an alkaline-earth metal and a rare-earth element each supported by the mixed powder; and a noble metal supported by the mixed power other than rhodium.
