PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare-earth magnet provided with a protective layer which can be manufactured by a simple method and has sufficient corrosion resistance, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof.
SOLUTION : The rare-earth magnet 1 of a preferable embodiment is provided with a magnet base 2 containing a metal element containing at least a rare earth element, and the protective layer 4 formed on the surface of the magnet base 2. The protective layer 4 contains an aluminum element and a metal element same as at least one kind of metal elements contained in the magnet base 2, and contains the aluminum element and/or the metal element as a compound having a hydroxyl group. The rare-earth magnet 1 of the above configuration can be manufactured through a process of allowing a solution containing aluminum ions and having acidity to contact the surface of the magnet base 2.
