PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a lighting device for a rare gas discharge lamp, capable of increasing the light quantity of the rare gas discharge lamp, without varying the envelope size of the rare gas discharge lamp or increasing the tube inputs. SOLUTION : This device includes a rare-gas discharge lamp DL, having a pair of strip-like external electrodes 5, 6 which are spaced apart and arranged on the outer peripheral surface of an envelope 1 having a light-emitting layer on its inner surface, and a high-frequency voltage generating circuit HA which has a constant power circuit PST, including a switching element QA on the input side of an output transformer TRA and generating pulsed high frequency voltages on the output side of the output transformer according to the switching action of the switching element based on the imparting and stopping of a drive signal. The rare gas discharge lamp DL is connected to the output side of the high-frequency voltage generating circuit HA, and power on the input side of the high-frequency voltage generating circuit, when the rare gas discharge lamp is lighted, is controlled so as to become almost constant by the constant power circuit. |
