PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a recovery method for obtaining a rare earth element from a rare earth element-containing object for recovery.
SOLUTION : In this method, an object for recovery comprising at least one rare earth element among yttrium and lanthanoids from lanthanum La to lutetium Lu whose atomic number is 57 to 71 is dissolved with mineral acid so as to be a solution, its pH is regulated in such a manner that the precipitation of hydroxide including elements other than the rare earth element is formed, then, the precipitate is separated away, and thereafter, the rare earth element dissolved in the solution is recovered as a rare earth compound. Further, the invention relates to a method for recovering a high purity rare earth element by a simple process, and the method particularly suitable as the method for recovering cerium based abrasives.
