PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a lighting device for a noble gas discharge lamp capable of further enhancing a quantity of light without changing the enclosure size of a noble gas discharge lamp or enhancing a tube input. SOLUTION : This lighting device is equipped with a noble gas discharge lamp DL structured by placing a pair of band shaped external electrodes 5, 6 in a mutually separated condition on the peripheral surface of an enclosure 1 having a luminescent layer on its inner surface, and a high frequency high voltage generating circuit HA which has a switching element QA and a capacitor CA on the input side of an oscillating transformer TRA, and generates a high frequency high pulse voltage in accordance with the switching operation of the switching element QA by a driving signal given, and the noble gas discharge lamp DL is connected to the output side of the high frequency high voltage generating circuit HA, and the switching element QA is switched on within a bouncing time in which the direction of a lamp current passing through the noble gas discharge lamp DL in each one cycle of repeated cycles in the lighted condition of the noble gas discharge lamp DL is reversed. |
