The present invention addresses the problem of providing a catalyst composition with which a modified conjugated diene polymer having a modified main chain can be produced using a simplified method. This catalyst composition is characterized by containing a rare-earth element-containing compound (A) containing a rare-earth element compound or a reaction product of the rare-earth element compound with a Lewis base, an organic metal compound (B) represented by formula : YR1aR2bR3c [in the formula, Y represents a metal selected from groups 1, 2, 12, and 13 of the periodic table, R1 and R2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1-10 carbon atoms, R3 represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-10 carbon atoms, a represents 1 and b and c each represent 0 in the case where Y represents a metal selected from group 1, a and b each represent 1 and c represents 0 in the case where Y represents a metal selected from groups 2 and 12, and a, b, and c each represent 1 in the case where Y represents a metal selected from group 13], and a compound (C) having a polar functional group. |
