PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a ferromagnetic metal powder for a coating-type magnetic recording medium which is suitable for high density recording, and to obtain a precursor of the ferromagnetic metal powder.SOLUTION : The precursor for use in manufacturing the magnetic powder is composed of acicular particles obtained by incorporating Co, AI, and R (where R indicates at least one rare earth element, including Y) in iron oxy-hydroxide or iron oxide, wherein the acicular particles containing Co at more than 0 to 50 at.% relative to Fe and further containing 0.1-30 at.% of dissolved AI have a surface layer portion coated with an R layer (where, the particle contains 0.1-15 at.% of R relative to Fe).COPYRIGHT : (C)2007, JPO&INPIT |
