PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an electroluminescent device having a high luminous efficiency wherein a complex containing rare earth metals is used as its luminous material, and is applied to its luminous layer.
SOLUTION : The electroluminescent device is the one having a luminous layer between opposite electrodes to each other wherein (1) the luminous layer contains a luminous material having rare earth metals; (2) the luminous material is made of metal clusters in each of which there are contained a central metal comprising a rare earth metal, counter metals existent oppositely to the central metal through oxygen atoms; and further, (3) the luminous layer emits a light by applying a voltage or a current astraddle to the electrodes.
