PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a varistor which can increase a bonding strength between a varistor element made of ZnO as its main component and an external electrode, and also to provide a method for manufacturing the varistor.
SOLUTION : A laminated chip varistor 1 includes a varistor element 3 and a pair of external electrodes 5 formed on the varistor element 3. The varistor element 3 has a varistor 7 and a pair of outer layers 9 arranged so as to sandwich the varisor 7 therebetween. The varistor 7 and the pair of outer layers 9 contain ZnO as their main component and also a rare earth element and Ca. The pair of external electrodes 5 are formed on the external surface of the varistor element 3 by baking, and contain Pt.
